Cold as Ice - warrior help
Just tried this quest for the third time, using a build I'd seen on here which supposedly only required:
You Move Like a Dwarf!
Ebon Vanguard Sniper Support
Signet of Infection
at least 1 speed buff
Supposedly all you have to do is use the three attacks, run out, repeat when the degen wears off.
However, every time (no exceptions), the Griffin would chase me into a corner, spamming spirits all the way.
The eventual result would be the entire area blanketed with spirit attacks, so that I'd have to spend more time healing myself (W/Mo atm) than attacking (which would make his godlike regen kick in and undo everything), until I couldn't heal over the spirit damage any more, and would either die from it, or be killed by the griffin in melee.
Can someone give me a better build, or better advice on using this one?

I had the same problem with just using ebon vanguard skills. I switched over to rit secondary and had better results.
ebon vanguard assassin support
+
ebon vanguard sniper support
+
signet of infection
+
gaze of fury (to destroy his spirits and make more of your own)
+
essence strike (for energy regen)
+
vampirism/bloodsong
+
pain
+
shadowsong (though I used painful bond when I did it just cuz I wanted to kill him faster)

Dragon Slash
Brawling Headbutt
Steelfang Slash
You Move Like a Dwarf!
Enduring Harmony
For Great Justice!
Flail
Enraging Charge
Can beat him in less than a minute with that. Start the fight by using Enduring Harmony and Enraging Charge. When he begins casting his first spirit, KD him with YMLaD, then use For Great Justice, and then KD lock him using Dragon Slash -> Brawling Headbutt. Works beautifully.
Edit: I did this before the spirit buff. But wow. This no longer works, because you can't interrupt his spirits. What a load of crap. Ignore my post. I do not envy any of you who have to do this to get IAU now.
I wonder now... I'm going to see what I can figure out. If I can think of something, I'll post back here.

if u can, just go W/N
Take:
-Aura of the Lich
-Barbs
Usage:
When you load in, cast aotl in the centre of all the corpses. When the griffin turns hostile, cast barbs and watch him get owned.

I have doubts against your opinion. I honestly think that the spirits would kill off the minions, even if you have one left every time you recast the enchantment. Though, then again I haven't tried this on one of my characters yet.

Get a +15e staff and Mesmer secondary.
Main degen from:
Conjure Phantasm
Conjure Nightmare
Ether Nightmare (kurz/lux)
CoP if you have
Auspicious for e-mgmt
Illusion of pain
Get on the hill, this is guerrilla tactics: hex and run. If you find the right spot, griffon will stay far enough from spirits so you dont get hit too much. hit with Illusion and a conjure, run, hit with illusion and other hex next round. Takes a while, but it's worked on my war and my para. YmlaD is helpful if he gets too close.

Your doubts are unfounded. That technique works. The minions are summoned before the griffon turns hostile and before it can summon any spirits.

There are several builds that work good against a Glacial Griffon:
Spirit Spammer
Dragon Slash Spammer
Another build that is great is Degen Spammer. Go to the hills, put on Burning Arrow, with some Poison such as Apply Poison. Spam that and he should go down.

if nothing else works, a foolproof method for any profession is:
X/R
poison tip signet
read the wind
flatbow or longbow
just stand on the hill to the right-ish of where you start, hit the griffon with a poison arrow, retreat up the giant hill leading to the portal, and repeat.

Add Burning Arrow to make it 80% faster.

W/N w/ 12 Death/12 Curses and Aura of the Lich/Barbs brings the Griffon down in record time, even after the PvE Spirit Buff. It doesn't even really have time to summon many spirits, the Bone Horrors lynch mob it so quickly.
It's a shame that because of one update you have to resort to gimmicky builds to complete a QUEST, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

He's not that tough if you make use of the terrain and spirit immobility; I just beat him with a simple axe build doing so. Lure him up the hill with a bow out of spirit range, fight a bit, then when he recasts shadowsong/dissonance run around the rock to the other, smaller side of the hill and fight him again where spirits can't hit you, repeating this back-and-forth until he is dead.
I used Lion's Comfort, Dismember, Axe Twist (weakness is fairly useful), Sprint, Warrior's Endurance, Flail, Power Attack, Dismember, and Furious Axe. It isn't perfect or as fast as gimmick skills, but it did work just fine.

Just to add to the AotL build - the reason why it works so well is that there are several (5?) wolf corpses ready and waiting so you have an instant army of (6?) minions.
It werk gud, yo.

Boost your energy as much as possible, then go as a regular spirit spammer. Wait `till he starts to summon his spirits, walk back a little, then right up the hill. Cast your spirits and wait for him to come to you. When he approaches spirits range, cast painful bond on him and watch him drop in a matter of seconds.

Just did it with my Warrior/Necromancer
AotL and Barbs work as advertised. I cast AoTL again once it recharged and got more corpses to kill the Griffon.

There should be no need to recast AotL. Once you get Barbs on the Glacial Griffon, the Bone Horrors from the wolf corpses should kill him off before AotL recharges.
